ALI partners with Vivant for biodiversity project
CEBU, Philippines — Ayala Land, Inc. (ALI) has partnered with Cebu-based energy and water company, Vivant Corporation, for the Kan-Irag Ecosystem Biodiversity Project.
This partnership aims to sustain and preserve the rich biodiversity of the Kan-Irag Carbon Forest, a 10-hectare area adjacent to the Central Cebu Protected Landscape (CCPL) in Brgy. Malubog, Cebu City. The Kan-Irag Carbon Forest is part of Ayala Land’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and forms one of its seven carbon forest projects across the Philippines.
These projects are designed as carbon sinks to mitigate climate change and as critical habitats for endemic species, helping to protect and enhance Cebu’s unique biodiversity. Vivant Foundation, Inc. (VFI), the corporate social responsibility arm of Vivant, will spearhead initiatives under this partnership, with employees from both companies actively participating in afforestation, restoration, and revegetation activities.
The goal is to rejuvenate the forest, remove invasive species, and promote the growth of endemic flora.
“Kan-Irag is one of our key initiatives to combat the severe effects of climate change. By expanding forests and protecting biodiversity, we’re creating long-term solutions that benefit both the environment and local communities. We are deeply grateful to Vivant for joining us in this important mission,” said ALI Head of Sustainability, Anna Maria Gonzales.
Shem Jose W. Garcia, Executive Director of VFI, expressed Vivant’s commitment to this long-term project, noting that it goes beyond traditional reforestation efforts.
“We want our team to be involved year-round, gaining a deeper understanding of the hard work required in ecological conservation. This partnership with Ayala Land allows us to see the tangible impact of our efforts over time, fostering a stronger connection to environmental stewardship,” Garcia said.
The Kan-Irag Ecosystem Biodiversity Project is a testament to how businesses can unite for a common cause, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in achieving sustainability goals. Ayala Land and Vivant Corporation’s shared vision for environmental protection sets a powerful example of corporate responsibility in action.
