CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu provincial government is ready to fund the repair of the junction road along the U.N. Avenue in Mandaue City for the project to complete.

This potholed junction road along U.N. Avenue is causing inconvenience already to the motorists, according to Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

This unfinished project is under the Department of Public Works and Highways but was put on hold because of some legal issues with the contractor.

The inconvenience of the unfinished project that causes traffic jams in the area prompted the Capitol to intervene and offered to fund the repair of the road junction to solve the problem as this also gives a bad image to Cebu from the arriving tourists, according to Garcia.

Garcia said they want to work on that issue as soon as possible considering it as an emergency work.

“Naa daw nay kaso, kapalpakan of some people pwerteng daghana ang nag-antos and it is such a bad first impression for our arriving guests or tourist that come here to visit Cebu,” Garcia said.

The subject area is one of the gateways from the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) to main Cebu, and tourists and motorist will pass through this road in and out to the Mactan Island.

During her meeting with the DPWH officials on November 10, Garcia told Engr. Nonato Paylado, the chief of the planning and design division of DPWH-7, that the Province is ready to take over the repair of the said road spanning 10 meters long and 30 meters wide.

On Monday, November 14, Garcia is set to enter a memorandum of agreement with the DPWH for the province to take the repair of the road portion to solve the problem there. — GMR (FREEMAN)
