Chamber Beat: CCCI continues to call for lowered cost of power in Cebu
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has recently called for intervention from the Regional Development Council (RDC-7) and the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) involving the high cost of electricity in Cebu alleging it to be one of the top three obstacles for economic competitiveness in Cebu City.
According to a research conducted by CCCI, comparing the data of all power utilities in the country, Visayan Electric was identified as one of the most expensive power distributors in the country.
CCCI also appeals for the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to shed light on the issues raised by the business community and to review the competitiveness of power rates of all Region 7 DUs.
CCCI, together with the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), Cebu Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (CFCCC), Philippine Retailers Association (PRA) Cebu chapter, and Mepzem Chamber Inc. (MEPZCEM), had extensively initiatedvarious collaborative meetings andnegotiations with Visayan Electric to address and find solutions to the lingering complaint of high cost of electricity in Cebu.
