CEBU, Philippines — Plantation Bay Resort and Spa in Cebu has partnered with Guam Reef Hotel to promote authentic Pinoy food to this US island territory— Guam.

This is one of the first moves of Plantation Bay to drum up interest from Guam to visit Cebu, both the Guamanians and Guam-based Pinoys, said Plantation Bay general manager Efren Belarmino.

With the partnership, the two resorts plan to introduce authentic Filipino cuisine to the island.

“We will be doing the Filipino Food Festival, which is scheduled during Philippine Independence Month in June," said Chito D. De Guzman-Aguilo, director of food and beverage at the Guam Reef Hotel.

“We are planning the festival and then this is probably a jumpstart to get more tourists from Guam, not only Filipinos, but from the military or Guamanians," added Belarmino.

The festival will be held in time for the Philippine Independence Month, the Guam Reef Hotel and Plantation this coming June 10 to 23, 2019.

The local partnership is also intended to attract visitors from Guam to experience the resort in Cebu.

Guam is the Philippines’ closest US destination. As a tax free island, it is positioned as the best shopping getaway haven for Filipinos, which is only three and a half hour away.

Of the total 160 thousand population in Guam, 30 percent are Filipinos. (FREEMAN)
