CEBU, Philippines - Filipino nurses, caregivers, wellness practitioners have higher edge to get easier Visa approval to Canada as the country faces the threats of an aging population.

Julian Payne, president of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (CanCham), said that Filipinos of medical background including those that have health and wellness services skills have great opportunities to easily enter Canada, even along with their families.

Aside from other skills, prospects like engineering, among others demand for skills and professions related to take care of the elderly is expected to double in the next couple of years.

Specialized skills like masseurs, manicurists, beauticians will also be in demand.

Moreover, Payne said that with the new set of leaders in Canada who are more likely immigrant-friendly, more Filipinos will have easier access to reside and work in the country.

Immigrant lawyer Fershen Llanes said that  like New Zealand, Canada continues to attract skilled-visa migrants, specifically for blue-collar jobs, like farmers, carpenters, hair dressers, bakers, chefs, as well as professionals in the field of medical expertise, diversional therapists, and even those who have call center job backgrounds.

Recently, HSBC economist Joseph Incalcatera mentioned that while remittances from overseas has dwindled in recent months, job demands however from other countries, especially from aging societies, including Asia is seen to help sustain its strength.

Demand for these specialized skills is high in bigger cities like Toronto, which is the fourth largest city in North America.  (FREEMAN)
