Poll results to affect Philippines business setting

Carlo S. Lorenciana - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A Singaporean feng shui expert says that business is likely to be affected if there's a significant change that comes with the impending new government in the Philippines this year.

"If this change represents a huge change, then the business sector will most likely be affected," Master Kevin Foong said in an interview late Tuesday.

Foong said the change in administration is a normal challenge for every country that's electing new government leaders. The Philippines is having its national election in May this year.

Foong emphasized that the continuity and consistency of government policies are crucial if the goal is to establish a stable business environment even with a newly elected president.

"Because a new president might have new policies that people take a while to adopt them... That time business outlook will likely be fluctuating to get used to the new president," he said.

Projection

Meanwhile on his projection in the 2016 Year of the Fire Monkey, the feng shui consultant cited the energy, entertainment, stock market and finance as the best performing industries this year.

He also mentioned of water-related industries, particularly transport, communication and shipping, as second best performing.

Foong said the earth industry where property, construction and development belong, will continue to see a positive growth this year.

On the other hand, the projected non-performing sectors are engineering, manufacturing, textile and paper, he added.

Feng shui — literally means wind and water — is an ancient Chinese belief system of boosting good fortune through positioning of objects and foretelling luck through traditional texts and dates. This practice is common throughout Asian and that many Asian businesses apply its principles in hope to create prosperity.
