Total recall 2

ARE WE THERE YET - Back Seat Driver - The Freeman

The whole SUA or sudden unintended acceleration issue, or non-issue for that matter, had me digging through the Internet to look for similar such claims.  All my digging got me to a website that had me entertained for days on end.  From the latest info on which vehicles are being considered the best or the worst, to the latest issues that are starting their own trend, www.carcomplaints.com is an online resource I would recommend to anyone who is looking to know more about motor vehicles.

Aside from complaints, which range from really worrisome to utterly ludicrous, the website also features updated information on which vehicle models have been recalled for specific causes.  Did you know that Mercedes-Benz is recalling over 28,000 cars due to power steering loss issues?  According to the report on the website, power steering assist on some models tend to fail due to software issues.  There are many other recall reports that are on that website which would greatly benefit motor vehicle owners.

For those who want to know what’s been going on with the general issue with SUA, all one needs to do is type SUA on the search bar, press the Enter key, and see the results.  The resources that would come up regarding SUA will blow the mind of the trend-riders who know almost nothing about the topic; which, unfortunately, comprises about 80 percent of the netizens who were commenting and sharing posts about the last SUA issue.  I can imagine their brain, figuratively, melting at the amount of information they would be bombarded with, including how poorly informed they are about the actual topic.

What I like about the website is that it also features progress reports on current investigations being done on units that have been reported to have issues.  From learning about the cause of an issue and the resolution of said issue, to issues that started out small and got bigger when further investigation was done, a website visitor would end up spending hours reading article after article.

The resources section of the website provides a visitor with links to websites that would address concerns ranging from common car problems, support and even legal counsel.

One may say that most of the topics being discussed or the links on the website point are not local.  True, and that’s what I’m hoping would be something the motoring community would notice.  We need a resource center just as, or even more, comprehensive and detailed.  There are some local websites that provide us with some motoring resources, and others talk about region specific concerns.  Unfortunately, this is not enough.  We need something nationally comprehensive and unbiased.

I throw this challenge out to the motoring community, especially those who already have motoring websites.  Let us work on putting together a resource center that would allow all motorists to learn more about motor vehicles, issues, concerns, and the support the can get in their local community.  Once this resource center is up, we will be finding less and less bandwagon riders and a better informed public.  And hopefully, we will no longer hear anyone saying that washing your car can cause SUA anymore.
