USC entrepreneurship studes showcase business ventures
CEBU, Philippines - Organized to harness the skills and to prepare the students in becoming competitive entrepreneurs by exposing them to the real world of business, the University of San Carlos gears up for the upcoming 11th USC Entrepreneurs’ Fair (Entrep Fair) which will be held on January 9-11, 2015 at the Ayala Activity Center, Cebu.
The press conference held at the University of San Carlos - Business Administration Department Conference Room was attended by Entrepreneurship cluster faculty – Kristian Marc Cabahug, Dr. Roberto H. Visitacion, and Dr. Angelita Ramona Valles; and also by Prodigy club officers, the BS- Entrepreneurship official club in the University – Dessa Kaye Regalado, Liza Maureal, and program head, Anne Baconawa.
BS Entrepreneurship curriculum caters the entrepreneurial process starting from Entrep11—Entrepreneurial Behavior—followed by the opportunity seeking done in Entrep21 and the product development in Entrep39. When products are made and tested, student entrepreneurs bring them to the Business Practicum in Entrep41, 42, 43 where the business plan is made and applied.
The department aims to build entrepreneurs and the 11th Entrepreneurs’ Fair’s purpose is to expose the students’ enterprises to the market, test out their products and apply what they have learned. By creating their own ventures, the students will not only develop the needed skills as entrepreneurs but will also gain the experience of running their own businesses, such as obtaining the necessary government permits, which they will soon do in the real business arena.
Thirteen business exhibitors from food to general merchandise businesses will be participating in the event and these are Wraps, Bananarific, Purifico, Quenchers, Ice Shots, Grounded and Pounded, One-Sixth Golden Dairy Products, Double Blast delights, The Veterans bread Shop, Everything Bacon, Fujinoya, 6075 Cafe, and East West Cuisine.
This semester’s fair will also be featuring nine non-selling student enterprises under the product development. Prototypes will be presented by the non-food student enterprises while product sampling will be done by the food enterprises. This twist in the upcoming Entrep Fair is something the cluster is looking forward to showcase.
“The best advantage of Entrep Fair is about contact building...” said Cabahug
Exhibiting the businesses in Ayala Center Mall where different types of consumers exist will earn them market attention. (FREEMAN)
