Over 30,000 Cebuanos seek jobs online — study
CEBU, Philippines - More than 33,000 Cebuanos are actively seeking for jobs online, a testament to the fact that the new way of applying for jobs is slowly gaining ground, a job site study revealed.
JobStreet.com Philippines' 2013 study showed that majority of the Cebuano applicants are young people aged 20 to 35 years old, making up 79 percent of the total number of jobseekers.
It showed a 70:30 unemployed versus employed ratio and 50:50 male/female ratio.
The study was aimed to target those economically active working population that satisfies the study age requirements (from 18 to 44 years old), JS Philippines Marketing Director Yoda Buyco said.
She told The FREEMAN that most in-demand workers are identified based on their work experience, saying that most Cebu-based employers are looking for early workers or those employees who have one to four years of experience.
These people make up 56 percent of the pie, based on the site's Central Visayas 2014 Jobs Statistics from January to April.
Fresh graduates or those who have less than one year experience comprise 20 percent; supervisors or 5 years and up experienced employees get the 14 percent; 9 percent goes to managers; and 1percent covers the CEOs.
The site's 2014 jobs statistics further suggested that Finance both in general and cost accounting is the newest specialization in Cebu; retail sales is second; computer (IT/Software) takes the third spot; Marketing/Business Development is fourth; and fifth is Logistics.
Aside from online, Buyco said some applicants also opt for referral basis and going directly to the company to look for jobs.
She also cited three of the crucial reasons Cebuanos consider when applying for a job: big and established reputable company, suitability for the position, and good and high paying salary.
She further said that with 2,500 to 3,000 Cebu-based jobs posted daily on the site, individuals have a big opportunity to get employed. For overseas jobs, JSPH asks overseas employers documents and requirements from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration to make sure of the legitimacy of the company, Buyco said. (FREEMAN)
