CEBU, Philippines - At least 5,280 jobs are up for grabs for Cebuanos in various fields of skills and professions, the Cebuano-owned online job portal Mynimo.com announced.

Mynimo.com president and chief executive officer Wesley Chiongbian said that apart from providing these jobs on the online platform, the company in collaboration with the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry  through the Cebu Business Month 2014 this coming June, will make these opportunities easily available to the job seeking community via the opening of a whole-day Job fair, dubbed as "The Happy Jobs Fair" on May 31, 2014 at the SM City Cebu Trade Hall.

Considered as the biggest private-sector-led jobs fair in Cebu this year, the event will bring together the employers, job seekers, in one venue to hasten application, and interview processes.

Initially, about 54 employers have confirmed to join the event with job openings or accounting and finance; administrative/office/clerical; agriculture and veterinary; arts/media/design; call center/BPO; domestic/caretaker jobs; education; engineering; food/restaurant; health and medical science; human resource/recruitment and training ; Information Technology; logistics and warehousing; production and manufacturing; purchasing; sales and marketing (retail); and other skilled and technical expertise.

Chiongbian said about 30 percent to 40 percent of the job opportunities are for overseas, while 60 percent are for local hiring.

Based on Mynimo.com's database, employment opportunities in the first quarter of 2014 increased by 60 percent, compared to the same period of last year, an indication of the sustained economic vibrancy of Cebu as well as rising demand for Filipino workers abroad.

Of the 60 percent local hiring, 63 percent of the hiring are from companies located in Cebu City, 14 percent from Mandaue City, 14 percent from Lapu-Lapu city and the rest are companies located in other Metro Cebu areas and outside the metropolis.

"Hiring from local companies is profoundly picking up,"said Chiongbian explaining that the larger part of increase is driven by the BPO sector with117 percent improvement, while demand for technical and skilled workers abroad went up to 136 percent.

Job seekers are encouraged to first register online before the event to minimize their wait in line. Applicants can pre-register for the event via www.mynimo.com/happy-jobs-fair.  (FREEMAN)
