Why I am not so positive about positive thinking

TRADE FORUM - Chris Malazarte - The Philippine Star

It makes me feel cheesy to write about positive thinking much less read them after realizing that many of them are so overrated nowadays. The bad thing about it is that, most of the bookshops that you frequent to are littered with all these junk and things like "New Age positive thinking" that you get so disappointed by the quality of the books that people read these days in this age of reason and scientific breakthroughs.

I am prompted to cover this subject in this column not because I want to debunk it. Positive thinking undoubtedly still has its many benefits in our day to day living. What ruins the whole thing is that we are conditioned that it is the only ingredient to success or to achieve the things we want in life. It is very much abused in that some have to resort into telling others that there is a mystical or metaphysical side of positive thinking they call the “law of attraction” just so they could sell their books or videos.

Positive thinking is good. But to rely on positive thinking alone to help you solve your problems is not. Positive thinking does not change the many realities in life: it does not make you tall if you’re too short to play in the NBA; it does not change the fact that you will never be a looker like Jennifer Lopez or Megan Fox. Positive thinking does not make you become what you believe as surreptitiously advertised by its profiteering proponents. And speaking of which, how many of you have fallen into the trap of putting your money into multi-level marketing because you were mesmerized by the video they presented about the power of positive thinking?

I believe that understanding life and the many truths we face everyday are the cornerstones to making a positive change in our life.

More discussion on positive thinking in my next column so stay stuck.

Lenddo’s achievements will be honored at the Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2013 in Dalian, People’s Republic of China, from 11 to 13 September.

“For Lenddo, being recognized as a Tech Pioneer is an honor -- for our company, our team and the hundreds of thousands of members of the Lenddo community whose lives we are trying to help improve,” said Richard Eldridge, Co-Founder and Global COO.  “We are very proud of this recognition of our efforts to empower the emerging middle class around the world.”
