CEBU, Philippines - High disposable income and upbeat economic growth of Cebu has paved way for a more stable nightlife industry in the metropolis that despite the entry of more restobars, an established player in Manila called “Cable Car” made its entry to Cebu.

Operated by seasoned restobar operators in Cebu who originally owned the Formo and Vudu, John Paul Chiongbian, together with partners Blake Go and Wayne Congmon, the young entrepreneurs invested at least P8 million to take advantage of the flourishing nightlife industry here.

In an interview with Chiongbian he said that unlike before that restobars are known for its short-life span because of the undeveloped party and nightlife here, Cebu now has become highly more urbanized and restobars with good service, stable management, and competitive advantage have sustained its business for long term.

“We have the biggest market now in the night life industry. The 21 to 28 years old are earning good and have high disposal income. Partying has become a norm for this market segment, thus the nightlife industry in Cebu has become more alive and offer good opportunity for business,” said Chiongbian.

Although, this young group of Cebuanos had been in several resto bar businesses in the past, Chiongbian said its involvement with Cable Car chain of restobars in the Philippines, which has been in the industry for over 20 years, offer clearer stability with its strong brand, and growing patronage among the young party goers.

The Cable Car Cebu located at Maria Luisa Road, along Banilad, is seen to widen the choices of young Cebuanos, as well as transients, tourists for de-stressing after a hard day work.

“We are happy to bring in such an established brand in the restaurant and bar industry to Cebu. Those who attended university in Manila are very familiar with Cable Car brand and we are excited to having them revisit and rediscover their college days while at the same time look forward to introducing Cable Car to the rest of Cebuanos. Known for its good food, ambiance, music and games, we are sure that will bring be bringing something new to the restaurant and bar industry here,” added Chiongbian.

Cable Car has a long and iconic history in the Makati scene, a staple name in the resto bar industry since 1992. It is well-known by several generations of loyal customers for its San Francisco pub ambiance and its crave-worthy bar food.

Through the years, the bar was known as one of the “after-party and late night food trip spots” but, it has evolved into so much more than what it was since it started two decades ago.— /JOB (FREEMAN)
