Garces Bridging Dreams
In the recent launch of the Mandaue Bridge Park, we noted the great potential of the park as a relationship monument for Mandaue City. The park, which is known as Pajara (which I later learned was the name of the contractor) is now baptized as the MANDAUE BRIDGE PARK. It’s “baptism†was witnessed by no less than Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, Mayor Jonas Cortes, Vice Mayor Glen Bercede and the council, and San Miguel Brewery Inc.’s executive, AVP Ricardo Tablante.
I say the park is a “relationship monument†for it showcases the partnership between the local government and the private sector. It also integrates in its vision, the cultural values of the Mandauehanons.
The “taga-Mandaue†as I know them, are so like the people of my hometown, Dumaguete City. They are gentle, fun-loving and very family oriented.
It is envisioned in this park that children will have a place to do their outdoor games and interact with other children, or even the adults, and not be marooned home in front of the computer.
It is dreamed that families will be able to set-up their picnic baskets on mats that are spread in the green spaces that will soon abound in the area.
The Mandaue Bridge park hopes to welcome people who seek respite from the busy throb of the metro to simply gaze at the boats that pass by and enjoy the breeze that fan their faces.
The senior citizens who enjoy their gate ball games in the gate ball bay can also enjoy exercise sessions with the clearing of more spaces for easier movement.
The park, which is part of the projects of the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the local government of Mandaue City is a great dream that we hope will come to full form. But the park needs support. There are repairs to be done. Enhancement and development to be made. The park needs the support of the Mandauehanons, here and abroad.
I am using this column to call out to those who are willing to help. Corporate citizens of Mandaue who believe that this is one way to further build stronger ties among families and friends. Members of Cebu’s community who care to share what they can to encourage more personal interaction by providing places for such things.
Help can come in form of cash or in-kind donations. You can check out where to send your contribution by reaching THE MANDAUE BRIDGE PARK COMMITTEE through Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Check out MCCI’s website. www.mandauechamber.org You can make this your business after business.
