DENR awards Aboitiz Power for environmental compliance
CEBU, Philippines - In its continuous move to strengthen its environmental consciousness, Aboitiz Power’s oil-based power plant in Carbon Market, Cebu City was recognized for the fourth consecutive year by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Central Visayas for its environmental compliance and social projects.
The awarding for the Multi-Sectoral Monitoring Team (MMT) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs of the Cebu Private Power Corporation (CPPC) were awarded recently in a ceremony at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Cebu City.
CPPC MMT Chairman and Brgy. Ermita Chairman Hon. Antonieto P. Flores and CPPC Safety and Environmental Management Manager Joselito M. Palacio were present to receive the award.
The MMT requirement is established to encourage public participation and a greater stakeholder’s vigilance, provide appropriate check and balance mechanism in the monitoring of environmentally-critical projects like the CPPC.
It ensures compliance of DENR standards to minimize impacts to the environment.
The Team monitors project compliance with the conditions stipulated in the ECC and commitments made in the Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan of the Company.
It is a third party auditor composed of representatives of identified stakeholders including: Cebu City Local Government, Barangay Ermita, PCAPI-7 (NGO), CENRO, and EMB 7, qualified by virtue of being stakeholders and with skills and knowledge on the specific tasks and programs necessary for the MMT Operation.
