Phl Independence Day in Singapore

Nico Velasquez - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - You can take away a Filipino from the Philippines but you can never take the Philippines away from the Filipinos. Indeed, physical boundaries pose no limitations to celebrating the country’s 115th  Independence Day.

Pride comes echoing to our shores from the proud roars of our brothers and sisters working in the thriving city of Singapore. Last June 16,  thousands of Filipino expats gathered at Telok Ayer Hong Lim Green Park Singapore to celebrate Independence Day in an event organized by the Filipino Expatriates Wives bade in the city.  This year’s event is a showcase of the best of what the Philippines can offer in terms of food, products, music, dances, games and other cultural activities.

Supporting this nationalistic event is M Lhuillier Philippines. Razel Elizalde, M Lhuillier’s Business Development Officer shared that, “it’s important that we always find ways to invigorate activities that promote cultural appreciation most especially to OFWs who have long been away from their families. This is to remind them that the fruits of their labor will always be waiting back home.”

Games and prizes were also made available by the leading non-bank financial institution to inspire thrill and animate the run of the entire day’s celebration. The Roulette, an unfading icon of  Philippine Carnival, was played to revolve and dictate the fate of the earnest player as to what prize he is to bring home. Also, the Wire Loop Game did share a sly of intrigue to those who tried to place their manual dexterity to the test. ML fans were given away to beat the heat while  shoulder bags were handed out to unload the modern day Katipunero of his handful.

On-site  Kwarta Padala Remittance Transactions via KP-To-Go Cards were given as prizes to 15 lucky winners during the event.  Each of the winners were given the chance to send P2,000 to their families back in the Philippines after just a few clicks from their own cellular phones.

Adding excitement to the event were the performances of famous Philippine showbiz icons Pokwang,  John Prats, Jay-R,  and Rhian Ramos.

Singapore-based Pinoy entertainers also came and delivered an impressive performance delighting the audience even more.  (FREEMAN)
