CITOM's good deeds

Thumbs up to CITOM for deploying several traffic law enforcers in the Talamban area during mornings, which has eased the traffic situation in the area particularly in front of the market where the habal-habal drivers clog up the road.

The CITOM must also help the people crossing the street in front of the Talamban Elementary School understand that the skywalk must be used.

There is still much to be done here, but CITOM Chairman Sylvan ‘Jack’ Jakosalem told us that they sent more enforcers to Talamban due to numerous complaints.

He also promised to look into the reopening of the Del Mar street, which leads to the Asiatown IT Park for vehicles coming from Banilad in the morning. Many people who work at IT Park are complaining why they closed this access road.

While many cheer about this development, there are readers who are hoping CITOM can also do something about Bulacao, Pardo, and Tisa. Calling Chairman Jack to take action then.

For the traffic authorities of Mandaue City, we give them a “thumbs down” for failing to ease the traffic situation in many areas.

There is terrible traffic at A.S. Fortuna up to the corner of H. Cortes Street and also at H. Cortes itself due to the repair work.

Then there is the traffic situation in the stretch from the Maguikay vehicle overpass to the corner of UN Avenue, which many readers have already complained about.

Mayor Jonas Cortes should look for somebody who is capable to help ease the traffic woes in his city.

One reader posted pictures of a white Toyota Tamaraw FX with red plates which was seen inside a school campus fetching students. Was it an official use? Or was it a case of an official using the government vehicle?

We also see several vehicles with red plates being used on Sundays when we go out of town. Maybe the LTO can send its personnel to the towns to check on these.

We drove south to Oslob and back last Sunday and noticed that very few seem to care about wearing helmets in the towns.

The motorcycle is a very popular mode of transportation but safety seems to be disregarded.

The Helmet Law cannot even be implemented because of many issues. We believe the solution to this problem still goes back to the issuance of licenses only to those qualified and making it difficult to renew your license if you commit many violations. Our government is too soft.
