The municipality of Borbon has remained consistent with their quest to keep their environment ecologically sound. Considering that they are known for the endemic species of snail, the helicostyladaphnis or takyong, which is locally bred and grown in the sanctuaries in the uplands, it is no wonder that municipal mayor Bernard Sepulveda or Butch as he is fondly called, has become very passionate about keeping the environs of his town as green and lovely as ever.
After passing an ordinance to keep from indiscriminate takyong harvesting and encouraging tree planting as breeding avenues for the bush snail, Mayor Butch and his town’s folks are now into growing more trees along the roadside of each barangay to spring more greenery and flowering tree heads for a more refreshing and colourful scenery in preparation for a northern Cebu adventure.
As a site for eco-tourism, Borbon takes pride of their unspoilt watersheds and the Silmugiriver, which is a banca or kayak water roadway. The marine sanctuary in parts of its waters, also give divers an underwater adventure as they view sunken ships and relics that have rested at the seabed, weaving stories of their own.
Beach hunts will lead you to the Casita in Borbon Beach Resort of Mr. Butch Cabatingan and his family. In this quaint resort is a relaxing treat especially if one wants a simple and private break from the harried life of the metropolis.
Horse trails, bicycle and mountain treks are good diversions from the usual fare of motorists in the city and the uphill climb opens an awesome view.
Recently, San Miguel Brewery Inc. (SMB) employees joined the municipality of Borbon in their roadside greening program through a ceremonial tree planting. It is expected that the municipality will be growing forest, indigenous, fruit and flower tree species in the area with the support of SMB through their environment protection program as part of their corporate social responsibility.
Mayor Butch Sepulveda, Councilor Mardonio Mangubat and Councilor Fernando Manuel Larranaga joined the municipality employees and SMB in the ceremonial tree planting. This program is expected to augment the picture of a fresh and healthy environment for Borbonanons and the rest of Cebuanos and guests as well.
