DTI-7 now accepts applicants for gov't internship program

- Grace Melanie L. Lacamiento -

CEBU, Philippines - As part of this year’s Expanded Government Internship Program, the Department of Trade and Industry Region 7 (DTI-7) is now accepting applicants to work as interns in the Central Visayas Office.

The Expanded Government Internship Program aims to strengthen youth participation in nation building, expose them to government service, train them on life skills and contribute to their economic well-being.

DTI – 7 Human Resource Management Officer Rebecca Basilla said that the internship program would be of mutual benefit since it could provide source of income for the applicant and additional workforce for the agency.

She added that the department would carefully screen the applications since the selected applicants would be assigned with tasks and responsibilities involving the regular operations of DTI such as visits to designated establishments, conduct of price and supply monitoring, submission of daily price and supply monitoring reports, standards advocacy and research.

Basilla further clarified that applicants can either be college students or fresh college graduates so that the latter could have the means to earn a living while still searching for a “real” job.

However, she admitted that interns will not be eventually hired to officially work after the program but will be encouraged to perform satisfactorily since there will be evaluation reports on their performance levels possibly in a monthly basis.

With a stipend of P282.51 per day for each intern, she said that the internship period covers a minimum of one and a half months and a maximum of three months.

All applicants must be English-proficient and must possess good communication skills.

Internship days and hours are from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with no flexible time allowed.

Those who qualify are advised to submit a letter of intent with bio-data addressed to DTI Regional Director Asteria C. Caberte, DTI Central Visayas Office, 3rd Floor, WDC Building, corner P. Burgos and Osmeña Streets, Cebu City.

Deadline for submission of application letters is on June 4, 2012.

The Expanded Internship Program is supported by the Department of Budget and Management and the Department of Labor and Employment and is participated by different local government units.
