Sharing the road the right way
Last week, we reprinted an email from a reader about the trash in Talisay City.
Recently, we were told by a motorist that there is so much trash strewn on the island at the Cebu South Coastal Road where there is an ongoing construction project.
We did see the area and we hope that the city officials, if not the barangay officials, must do something about it.

We received this email the other week, but ran out of space.
Here is what Jesson Morata has to say on those who want to share the road:
I laud some efforts of those who show compassion for our environment like those who advocate for using bikes. The intention is really good for the environment as well as for one's health. But I just could not help but judge as bad some acts some bikers do especially at road intersections.
I have encountered many times already where some of these bikers just disregard the traffic lights. Even if its still stop, they don't bother to yield. A one time I almost figured in an accident because a group of bikers did not heed to the traffic light. I think biking advocates and bike clubs should police their own ranks and remind the members to follow traffic rules.

Jesson raised a good point, which other motorists have also noted in the past.
Many bikers cross intersections even if those from their side of the road still have a red signal. This practice is downright crazy and can cost the life of people.
The same goes for people pushing carts, who seem to think that they would not get hurt if they get hit by vehicles.
There are also many who insist on biking on the inner lanes. Yes, there is a good argument to ask our officials for bike lanes, but there is also a major safety issue with regards to people insisting to bike in the middle of the road at night or even in broad daylight.
We also love to bike and hope to someday see bike lanes on selected areas where we have roads that are wide enough to accommodate such.

We got an email last week that gave us the contact number of an engineer from the Department of Public Works and Highways, who can answer the questions on the concreting project at the short stretch of Don Gil Garcia St. beside the Provincial Capitol.
Unfortunately there was a death in the family and we did not have the time to make the calls or schedule an interview.
We will let the readers know once we have the information.
