Unfinished project
One hot topic on social media is the unfinished widening of a portion of Don Gil Garcia St. beside the Cebu Provincial Capitol.
While the area has already been opened to two-way traffic, many questions have remained unanswered.
One is when would the area beside the road be cleared of illegal settlers.
Another is if the contractor is already done with its project. And an even bigger question is who will complete this project.
This area is very dusty during these hot days and not only the dust is flying, but also small stones that, according to some sources, have already caused damage to some signs in the area.
We have only less than two months left before classes start. When classes start, traffic flow gets clogged up. How long does the public have to wait before work on this area will be completed?
We understand that according to government procedures, the contractor would not be paid unless the project is completed. If so, the contractor must also take some action and get the government to do its share so that the work can be finished before classes start this June.
This area is such an eye sore. If you happen to get dust in your eyes, you could also get sore eyes.
The person is responsible for this delay ought to be tied to a post in the area so he or she can understand the sentiment of the people passing the place and that of those who live and work there.

Last week we received email from Tita Monette Aliño and she had this to say about Talisay City.
Read your column today. I was in Talisay City last Easter afternoon, hoping to attend Holy Mass.
I just came from the South where the air was clean and streets so clean. I thought of going around Talisay City park and show off the historical landing statues. OMG, it was filthy! Not only with trash but even the park was dilapidated.
Talisay was crowded with people celebrating Easter - but what a shame! Can’t we even have the conscience to keep it clean??? And to think that once upon a time, Talisay was a haven for picnikers!

We also received a letter yesterday from a reader named Monette Sitoy-Arego. This is what she had to say:
I have always been a reader of your column because I myself is a concerned motorist. Last Holy Week I went to Bogo and I almost suffered a heart attack because I was so furious to see that some portions of VERY GOOD concrete roads from Catmon to Bogo were destroyed so that it will be reconcreted again.
She still had much more to say, and I’m sure many are also asking why such is being done.
Our family was planning to head north for the Holy Week, but changed our mind when we experienced the long delay in our travel when we attended the funeral of an aunt in San Remigio.
Who can answer the questions of the public? With the elections set next year, the people need a good explanation.
