Southern choke points
Traffic somewhat ruined the vacation of some people we had a chance to talk to the past couple of days.
One of our fellow editors said that there was very traffic congestion in Carcar with the rotunda in the Poblacion area as the choke point.
This is a usual choke point in Carcar City, which ought to start finding ways to ease the flow of traffic if it really wants to prove that it is ready to be a city.
The basic problem with the rotunda in Carcar is that there are too many vehicles that are allowed to park around it.
There are also many tricycles and trisikads in the area. Of course, in order to get some order, what is needed is political will. Unfortunately, we don’t seem to see that among our local government leaders.
Travelers will have to bear with traffic in Carcar for many more years, which is not good for the city’s image, but good for the vendors, who sell ampao, chicharon and bukarilyo.

Another area where there was heavy traffic during the Holy Week break is the town of Minglanilla also in the southern part of Metro Cebu.
First was last Maundy Thursday when a fire hit the area near the public market. Then last Sunday when the town celebrated the Kabanhawan Festival.
Minglanilla is one of the areas where traffic gets stalled because of poor management.
There are traffic law enforcers, but many refuse to heed the rules especially tricycle drivers, who seem to think that the leaders can be pressured into allowing them to do things their way because of the votes.
We hope we are wrong to think that way, but many observe that to be the case in this town.

After the five-day weekend for many, unfortunately not for us in our industry, it is back to the grind today.
Expect some traffic congestion in certain areas like the highway in Mandaue and the South Road Properties where repair work is undergoing.
It is probably good that yesterday was a holiday as the traffic flow of vehicles heading back to the city from the towns has been spread to two days – Sunday and Monday, instead of just one day.
With temperatures soaring, be sure to have your vehicle’s cooling system and your car air conditioners checked.
Having a car that can withstand the heat will also help keep your head cool while driving.
