Minglanilla traffic

CEBU, Philippines - The traffic situation in Poblacion Minglanilla needs to be addressed immediately.

We have heard so much about the problem in this area and last Saturday night on our way back home from the town of Moalboal, we personally experienced the traffic congestion that could have easily been avoided had the traffic signs been obeyed.

There is a long stretch of road that has been designated as NO STOPPING ANYTIME, but there was a long line of tricycles, several jeepneys and even private vehicles parked in the area.

The reason for the anarchy must have been the fact that we did not see any traffic law enforcers in the area.

If this is the attitude of our drivers then the local authorities must put people there even early evenings on weekends to see to it the people toe the line.

The situation above is very similar in Tabunok. Although we often see traffic law enforcers in the area in front of the church, nobody is deployed closer to the Mananga Bridge, where there is really a need for law enforcement.

This situation makes us and many others ask if these people were told to turn a blind eye on what is happening there.

We have also noticed that the traffic enforcers of Talisay seem to allow drivers to blatantly violate the no left turn sign for vehicles coming from the south at the intersection going into a cockpit.

A reader sent us email regarding the many NO PARKING signs that have been put up on Rahmann St. in Barangay Zapatera.

“The whole street - both sides - is no parking anytime and subject to towing. I don't know why but almost instantaneously, there are signs within ten feet of each other throughout the entire street.

“Either someone made some money or wants to make money on cars that need to park on that road by towing.”

We wonder if the signs were also meant for the many taxis that are parked in this area.

On our way to Moalboal last Saturday we passed a group of men in Barili who were asking for money from motorists passing the area where they have put some soil on huge potholes.

We wonder if the town officials and the police know about the activity. Or if it was the first time that the people were doing it.

It does not look good for the town or for our province, which is encouraging the people to visit the towns.

Maybe Capitol can look into these incidents and call the attention of local government officials to rid our highways of such hazards.
