CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital has introduced its newest addition for their eye center, which further boosts their aim to help Cebu’s goal as a premier Medical Tourism destination.
During a recent press conference, Cebu Doctors’ highlighted the New Alcon LenSx, which is the first laser system approved by U.S FDA cataract surgery that makes it possible for no blade cataract surgery in the country.
Another equipment emphasized was the Wavelight Refractive station, which is one of the fastest and advanced technology for all laser Lasik surgery that addresses problems with nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
Potenciano Yong Larrazabal III shared that they acquired the equipments late last year and started operating last month. Now, they have had over 100 patients, locals and foreigners alike.
Larrazabal said that they expect more patients to come in, especially that there is no more hesitation from the public for Lasik laser and cataract surgery.
He explained that for a long time, there was apprehension from the public due to the fear of surgery.
But he said that patients have changed their minds since Lasik surgery was introduced. The Larrazabal Eye Group is one of the most advanced eye facility in the country having the most successful cataract surgeries and being in the top three of Lasik centers in the Philippines.
The new equipments introduced by Cebu Doctors’ are one of its kinds in Cebu and in the whole Visayas and Mindanao.
The Alcon LenSx makes it possible for patients to be cataract free in minutes, without going through any blade surgery.
The Wavelight Refractive system “combines the most advanced lasers currently available for performing Lasik surgery by breaking the speed barrier by doubling its firing rate. It represents a new generation of refractive technology referred to as “High performance vision correction,” that allows patients to achieve exceptional results under all lighting situations, day and night, reducing incidents of “halos” and glare.”
Both equipments amounted to P25 million each.
Steve Antonio, an Australian and Camilo Arenajo, a Filipino doctor, both testified that they have gone through the surgery and within minutes, their vision problems were greatly improved without going through post surgery pain or even during the operation itself. Both patients shared that since they did not need to be admitted for the surgery, they were able to proceed with their daily activities immediately on the next day.
Larrazabal also said that no scars appear years after surgery, which is a common concern of those who do not wish to have an operation.
Also, he shared that one of the reasons why those with vision problems hesitate to undergo surgery was because of the expenses.
But he said that they offer the service for a reasonable amount, which is more affordable than in other countries offering the same services.
“For only P95,000, patients can have the all laser Lasik on both eyes. If they opt for the traditional Lasik, it would only be P50,000 for both eyes.”
Dr. Potenciano Larrazabal Jr., president and chairman of the board of the Cebu Doctors Group shared that as the evolution of treatments have dramatically changed over the years, Cebu Doctors’ would continue to go with this change by acquiring new machines and new modes of treatment to better serve their patients.
“We will always be in the forefront in acquiring equipments and in providing the best training for our staff for the benefit of the patients.”
