Tents on the highways

We received several complaints last week about tents put up for wakes that occupied a portion of the highway.

The first one was about the tents in Basak, Cebu City across the University of San Jose-Recoletos. 

One of the readers, who complained said that one of the tents had the name of a politician, who has ran twice and lost in both instances.

Another reader said that the officials, who allow the putting up of the tents should be made liable for any accident that would happen.

Several readers also complained about a similar situation in Poblacion, Consolacion. One reader said that the tent practically occupied one whole lane of the two south-bound lanes.

Another reader asked where he can file a case against those people who allowed the putting up of the tent. Maybe our readers have ideas where, because we don’t know.

We told him we’ll just discuss the matter in this column.

The opening of the Capitol compound to Guadalupe-bound traffic until a little later in the evening and on weekends has eased the situation in the area.

But, there is still a problem late at night when the only option for those heading to Guadalupe would be to pass through V. Rama Ave.

Of course, they can also pass through Labangon, but that is a longer route and to those not familiar, they could get lost.

One thing we observed is that many vehicles stop at corner Duterte St. to pick up passenger, which causes congestion for the Banawa-bound vehicles affecting the flow of traffic at V. Rama.

The CITOM officials should know this by now, or do they? 

Another reader called us about the traffic situation in Barangay Bulacao, Cebu City last Saturday morning.

She and her kids were on their way to Pardo, but traffic from the area in front of St. Paul College to Citi Hardware was crawling.

She said that the reason were the vehicles that stopped even in the areas that have been marked as NO STOPPING ANYTIME.

We have brought this matter up with a top official of CITOM, but he just shrugged and said that people always complain. So, where do we go to?

It was recently reported that the former chief of the Pardo Police Station was relieved.

We were hoping that the new chief would see that their patrol vehicle is parked on an area with a NO STOPPING ANYTIME sign.

We still see the vehicle there each time we pass, so what is the new chief going to do?
