Road 'Rage-volution'

Last Saturday’s Road Revolution seem to have generated a lot of interest. Unfortunately for the organizers, it is interest not favoring what they were doing, but on where they failed.

Sharing the road may be good, but sharing it is different from closing several roads causing traffic congestion due to the lack of proper information dissemination.

Maybe we can’t blame the organizers alone as the city officials, who approved the road closure, also had a responsibility to let the people know of what was going to happen.

We also love to bike with other members of our family, but we don’t insist to do it on the busy roads, because many other people also have the right to go about their lives.

Okay, using bikes and walking on the streets may reduce the pollution and fuel consumption in the area that was closed, but what about the area surrounding it where there was a traffic jam?

The organizers of Road Revolution and the city officials must rethink their strategies.

Another traffic issue last Saturday was the closure of two of the north-bound lanes at the South Road Properties (SRP) for a fun run.

Okay, we don’t mind sharing the road and that is true, but if the sharing is not equal, then that is wrong.

We noticed that while they had people stationed right at the bridge connecting the cities of Cebu and Talisay, there was no way for motorists to know early on about what was going to happen in that area.

If the organizers carefully thought about it, they would have arranged with the officials of Talisay to put several signs leading to the area that was closed to forewarn motorists.

By the way, somebody also commented on the trash that is left on the road by the runners, who simply throw the plastic cups offered at the water stations on the road.

Is there anything that can be done about this?

 A reader asked us what is the reason why the access road to the IT Park, that allows vehicles coming from the Banilad area to get to the place faster, is closed in the mornings?

The reader said that this road would have reduced the traffic at corner Juan Luna Ave. and Arch. Reyes Ave.

The arguments on the construction of vehicle overpasses has continued but many know that nothing much can be done by those opposed to it.

We again would like to reiterate that the cheapest way to solve the traffic problem is to implement the laws.

As an ordinary citizen we can help by obeying the laws. If our vehicle is not anymore fit to be registered, then we better take the initiative to just junk it.

If you see traffic signs, you should follow them. If you don’t have a place to park, then don’t buy a vehicle.

We can all do our share to make this a better place for us Filipinos.
