Near accident
A few days ago we almost hit a motorcycle driver at the junction of Salinas Drive, Juan Luna Ave., and Arch. Reyes Ave. when the driver of the two-wheeled vehicle cut into our lane from the right side to make a left turn.
Luckily, we missed him by inches or maybe millimeters, but that act of an ignorant driver would not have happened if he was only observant enough.
While we were on the left lane, we were heading into Juan Luna and not turning left as it is not a lane exclusively for left turning vehicles. Many motorcycle drivers have the bad habit of weaving in and out of traffic and positioning themselves in front of all other vehicles that are properly stopped within the designated stop boxes.
Well, there have been many similar incidents that ended up with people getting hurt and we thank God for giving us reflexes that were quick enough to respond to that sudden cutting into our lane.

Last week, we received an email from a certain George McVey, who commented on the article we wrote about law enforcement.
Here is his email:
It’s not a bad article about the lack of enforcement We see it everywhere...and after looking the other way so many times, it appears to not even be a violation anymore.
Even in the U.S.......same thing...we have more laws that anyone...but enforcing them is the problem. Look at the 40+million illegal aliens living there.....they have turned their heads the other way so many times, it doesn’t matter that much anymore, until it becomes such a heavy burden on the system.
It could be the same thing here in the Philippines....don’t enforce small things, then don’t bother with big things either. Politicians and others think they are above the law in every country in the world and expect special privileges.
And it’s not compassion for people....its laziness, desire for money, quite possibly a lack of character too.
I think we need better screening of applicants....to try to get the most determined to stand up for right...and justice....no preferential treatment.

A reader called us up last Saturday to complain about the traffic situation under the overpass/flyover near the entrance of the Cebu Business Park.
The reader said that the traffic situation of this area could easily be controlled if only there would be somebody directing the flow of vehicles.
The reader has raised this matter up with us several times and we have also informed some friends at CITOM about this.

The heavy rains last Friday caused flooding and major traffic jams in many areas around Cebu City.
Worst hit was the downtown area. It is really time to clear the waterways of obstructions.
