MOTORIST’S CORNER - Nimrod NL Quiones -

While most of the time we discuss on this column, the bad things that motorists encounter on and off the road, we also give space to good comments from our readers.

Last week, we got a call from Roman Alvarez of Mabolo, Cebu City, who is a long-time reader of this column. We haven’t heard from him for a long time, but in his recent call he asked us to commend a couple of government people, who have done the public well.

Roman said that he would like to thank Engr. Mariano Po of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), who immediately acted on his complaint about a broken box culvert in the Mabolo area near the old Pepsi plant.

He also asked us to help him thank Maam Lucy at the Street Lighting office of Cebu City Hall, who also quickly responded to his concern.

These government personnel prove to us that there really is hope for the Filipino people.

Here’s an email that we got from Jesson Morata:

I would like to commend our authorities for a job well done in keeping the Holy Week very orderly and in place. As I was able to observe in the different terminals, ports and other public conveyances, our public servants from the government agencies tasked to look into public transportation systems and in the peace and order situation did handle things very competently.

Different help desks were set up in bus terminals and ports to assist passengers and to keep things in array. I would like to commend the personnel of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), Philippine National Police (PNP) and other government agencies and civic groups and volunteers who rendered their services during the Holy Week break, just to ensure that the conduct of the Lenten break will be solemn and orderly as well.

Joe Cavada of Tauhai Garden beach Resort in Pinamungajan thanked us for mentioning in this column our visit to the western coast of Cebu.

One of the things he agreed with us is the need for more rest stops that the travelers can use.

Here is what he had to say:

I, too share with you the observation about the lack of rest-area facilities along the travel routes. Also, Bujo River is a very welcome addition to our tourist attractions in West Cebu. But we still need to develop more attractions... and build more as well as better roads.

With your advocacy, I hope you can bring West Cebu... and I hope TAUHAI too... into the consciousness of suroy-suroy inclined Cebuanos.
