Motorists' Corner on Facebook

Last week, we brought this weekly column into social media by starting the Motorists’ Corner page on Facebook. 

Through this page, we can post our observations and comments on the traffic situation and also the condition of the roads. We can also post pictures to prove our point.

We only have a few members so far as we did not invite too many yet because some might not want to be part of the group. If you do want to join the group, we believe you can do a search on Facebook and click on the join button.

Maybe this can help us get our message through to the authorities faster as some government officials are already part of the group.

Here’s an email praising the implementation of a city ordinance from Jesson Morata:

The stern implementation City Ordinance No. 1837 has initially paid off. The restriction of jeepneys from Mandaue city, 21B specifically has helped ease traffic in Gen. Maxilom St., Osmeña Blvd. and the downtown area. Such is a welcome development because it has alleviated the horrendous traffic in the said areas and lessen the startling encounters of motorists, to some of reckless drivers of the 21B route. It may have caused an inconvenience to commuters especially those coming from Mandaue. But we have to mull over that the same scheme was done for those jeepneys coming from Lapu-Lapu City many years back.

Eventually, commuters from Lapu-Lapu got used to it. I think it’s high time for our traffic managers and other stakeholders also to consider new jeepney routes because I think there are too many 21B jeepneys.

Here’s a comment we got via Facebook from a reader:

I'm totally amazed on how these small bikes (bicycles) are able to just go on our busy roads especially at night cutting across cars. Just like what happened to me tonight on my way home. Along Gorordo Ave. fronting U.P., some small bike just surprisingly appeared on my right side then cutting me off when a jeepney had to cut to the right to pick up passengers. 

Lastly, I'd like to commend the local engineering dept of the local gov't for finally patching up our potholes. However, there are still more potholes not yet fixed. One that I know of is on a portion of Don Jose Avila St. (fronting Bo's Coffee). The side that goes towards Osmeña Blvd is full of potholes or asphalt that never got cured timely. Also, please call the attention of the local engineering office who did the road work to pay close attention on their scheduling the patching. Just last week, the patching of the roads in Barangay Camputhaw caused a huge traffic mess up. This was right before noon. Is that the only time in the day to patch up the road? Thank you.

We saw last Thursday three tables that were occupied by gamblers right on the narrow road on Lorega-San Miguel. There was a wake, which probably made those people think that they can just do it and the barangay and city officials are too scared to tell them it’s wrong.

We passed the place around 7 a.m. and aside from that there are also many vehicles that are illegally parked.
