Potholes
We got a break from the rain last week and of course, it is always expected that when the rains are gone, the potholes will start showing.
The poor condition of the roads is emphasized after the rain as the little asphalt cover would be washed away and the little puddles turn into huge potholes.
There is this small road passing through the interior of barangays Cabangcalan and Canduman in Mandaue, which used to be a welcome escape from the traffic when going to or from the school of the kids.
After the days of heavy rain, a portion of the very narrow road has been converted into some sort of a track for 4x4 vehicles as there is one huge pothole that you canít miss.
Maybe this is just a back street, but the authorities have to bear in mind that this is a very important road to help ease the traffic congestion from the main roads.
This is not only a problem here, but also in many other areas around Metro Cebu. We hope that the government will take immediate action.

Last week, a man started patching up the potholes on a portion of V. Gullas (Manalili) Street. After patching the potholes, the man stood around the area and asked for money from the passing motorists.
We donít know if somebody asked the man to leave the place or what, but it was also some sort of a statement showing how inutile the government has become.
Of course, we also believe that relying too much on government can only result to long waits and results that we might not get in our lifetime. At times we have to take action to make our lives better.

ìWho do we complain to about the motorcycle drivers, who donít follow their lane and go against the flow of traffic?î
This was a question asked to us by one reader. We told him that the matter has been something we have long been writing bout in this column , but the authorities seem to have their hands full doing many other things and havenít found a way to stop the practice.
Many feel the same way as the reader, who approached us at a mall. He said that he almost ran head on against a motorcycle driver, who went to the opposite lane to avoid traffic.Although we feel very unsure about this, but we remain hopeful that someday our drivers would respect the traffic authorities and follow the laws.
We now see that drivers donít care if policemen or traffic enforcers are around and just disobey the rules since nobody bothers to stop them.
We believe in leadership by example, but too bad, we have many bad examples from the people tasked to implement the laws themselves.
