CEBU, Philippines - Following the recently concluded Business and Sustainability Summit, the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) vows to make sure its members will adopt sustainable business practices in their respective establishments.
MCCI president Eric Ng Mendoza said that the business organization believes that it is important for all citizens of the Philippines to declare that “it is no longer enough to be concerned only with our business and personal interest.”
In response to the country’s call for transformation and private volunteerism “we commit to develop a sustainable economy where business takes on a leadership role in using environmentally friendly technology, practicing social responsibility, integrating human resource development and enforcing policies that promote responsible business performance while achieving growth.”
Members of the MCCI, and those that attended the one-day summit signed to commit into action the different programs that will be implemented in their respective organizations and companies
These include the implementation of new specific sustainable business practices and use environmentally friendly technology in their daily business operation.
Also, the group committed that they will review their current and future products or services from the perspective of Sustainable Business Objectives, and to make measurable improvements specifically in areas such as lifecycle carbon footprint, re-use and re-cyclability of materials, minimizing pollution and reducing the consumption of energy and other natural resources, and other objectives.
The group also committed to Corporate Social Responsibility and aim to improve the lives of the less fortunate within our communities and raise the quality of life in the province as a whole;
Those who responded to the call and signed to commit for the implementation of Sustainable lifestyle and company operations, also vowed to participate in the learning and development program to upgrade their knowledge and skills in the area of sustainable business development and corporate social responsibility, and apply that knowledge and skill in their own companies, families and ‘for the country as a whole.”
Also, part of the commitment is to promote transparency in their individual collection endeavors and practice good corporate governance.
The group also agreed to report in future Sustainable Business summit as to what changes they have made and what was achieved as a result of making their first steps in achieving Sustainable Lifestyle and corporate operation.
Chaired by Stanley Go, the Mandaue Business Movement 2010, will start a new and pro-active direction, of which prime movers hope to stimulate participation from all business sector players not only confined to the MCCI members but to the whole of Metro Cebu or province.
Instead of holding the annual business month celebration, the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) has taken a major step to launch a year round movement calling members to be pro-active in employ “change” in their respective companies.
Moreover, the movement hopes to bring new learning for the business community to show what needs to be done to develop a more sustainable business community “so they can make a firm commitment to sustainable change, and move to specific actions both individually and collectively.”
