CEBU, Philippines - The Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) recently inducted Cebuanos as new “Fellows” of the organization after passing all the qualifications of the ICD.
Cebu Business Club (CBC) president Allan Gordon “Dondi” Joseph said Fellows of the ICD can qualify one to be a director in a publicly-listed company. The ICD mission is to professionalize and upgrade the good governance competencies of directors of public, publicly-listed companies.
“The candidate, if accepted, must attend a five-day seminar on good governance. He or she must also pass the written examination, and be successfully interviewed by a panel of senior Fellows of the ICD. The Board of the ICD then makes the final decision.”
In line with this, the ICD is holding for the first time a professional directors’ course, which is a pre-requisite to being a fellow, in Cebu on July 5 to 9, 2010.
The ICD is primarily an Institute “of, for and by corporate directors” made up mainly of individuals and agents committed to the professional practice of corporate directorship in line with global principles of modern corporate governance.
It conducts a professional directors training program and is accredited by the SEC, the BSP, the IC and the DOF to conduct corporate governance orientation programs. It works with partners in a joint pursuit of systemic corporate governance reforms in the Philippines and the East Asian region. It is a founding member and permanent secretariat of the Institute of Directors in East Asia Network (IDEA.net) composed of representatives from Thailand, Indonesia , Singapore , China , Hong Kong , South Korea , Taiwan and Malaysia.
