South Korean firm unveils eco-friendly oil lubricants

CEBU, Philippines - Producing petroleum products that would help decrease Carbon dioxide emissions is possible with the use of advanced and high technology, this according to Sun Kim, area manager of SK Lubricants Global Marketing Team for Southeast and Southwest Asia and the Middle East.

Kim said in a press briefing held at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino on Thursday, that producing petroleum products that are eco-friendly is one of the strengths of SK Energy, a petrochemical company based in South Korea.

Reducing emissions of Carbon dioxide, one of the greenhouse gases that cause global warming and climate change, has been a concern of the global community, including the Philippines. Carbon dioxide is a byproduct of burning fossil fuels by industries and automobiles.

Kim said SK has patented processes and technology that enables them to produce petroleum products, including lubricants that help in this global advocacy.

Aside from a low carbon emission, SK lubricants, the ZIC product line, has a longer drain interval of 10, 000 kilometer than other lubricants in the market. Normally, automobiles have to change oil after every 5,000 kilometer of engine use to protect the engine from damage, SK Techno-lube Corp. president Vic Liu Jr. said.

“Our product is a little bit expensive than our competitors but ours has a longer drain interval. (Buyers) can still save (in the long run),” he said.

SK Energy is the mother company of SK Lubricants, the company’s lubricant division that produces ZIC automotive, marine and industrial lubricants.

Kim said the ZIC product line is made from Yubase and a product of “extensive research and development.”

“Yubase is a very high viscosity index (VHVI) base oil. It ensures consistent lubrication, viscosity and surface contact even at extreme temperatures. Just like the heart needs clean and healthy blood, so does your engine need clean, effective motor oil to function at its best,” he said.

With the VHVI technology, ZIC lubricants make engines run smoother and cleaner because of the absence of unnecessary impurities that cause deposits and damage in the long run,” Kim said.

ZIC lubricants are exclusively distributed in the Visayas by Luminous International Philippines Trading.
