CEBU, Philippines - Seeing the huge potential to set up a supermarket in the south given its growing population, Robinsons has just opened their 47th store in the country located in Talisay to further cater to the needs of the residents in the city and the nearby areas.
During the grand opening of Robinsons supermarket in South Central Square in Lawaan Talisay, Danilo Lim, Robinsons supermarket general manager shared that Cebu has always been part of their plans due to the good feedback that their two supermarkets in Cebu has reaped.
Lim said that following the success of their Fuente and Banilad supermarkets, they had no hesitation to put up another one and that they are eager to have the chance to put one in the south area, specifically in the South Central Square mall.
According to Lim, they are happy to put up their supermarket in the area since there is not much competition and so that people would not to go to Cebu city to shop for their groceries.
Lim said that this is part of their expansion plans, which not only means other branches but as well as upgrading the retailing business.
He explained that they are strengthening their practice of serving fresh and healthy products by educating the people on the food they buy.
Lim said that through their “Shop Smart” program, they have posters all over the supermarket, which has four color codes that helps guides the people on the products. Green tags are for food that fits the healthy lifestyle with the special nutritional attributes while products with yellow are Robinsons in-house products that they promise to be of best quality and low prices. Orange is for the products on sale and discounted while goods with the white color are the regular products.
Lim said that they are practicing this in all of their branches nationwide and had very good reviews from their customers.
He said that they are optimistic that this would also help encourage more shoppers for their new branch in Talisay.
In general, Lim said that they are confident with the new branch which they have invested to more than P50 million.
Lim said that they are happy with the new investment in Cebu and is looking forward for future projects where he added that they are now scouting for prospect locations.
The economic downturn has also not affected the company as Lim said that this has been their best year so far with the increase in sales and customers.
Meanwhile, Cyril Velasco, the Vice president of finance for Matvel Holdings, which owns and operates the South Central Square said they are happy with the new partnership with Robinsons and they are confident with the result in terms of the arrival of customers since Velasco said that Robinsons has been present in the industry for quite a while and they have proven themselves in having the best quality of products and service.
Velasco shared that the supermarket is a good addition to their mall which now has three buildings that are already fully occupied and all offers variety of products and services.
According to Velasco, their corporation started in the lending business and shifted to real estate but they are happy to invest in their new project since it has reaped good feedback from the people and they are eager to serve the people of the south.
