Illegal parking

It seems that illegal parking continues to be a problem around the city despite the use of private contractors to tow vehicles of violators. We have not only received complaints via text and call, but also via email.

Is the city really very strict about illegal parking?  We say no and we believe that the implementation of the law is very selective.

We do not however condone violence against the towing contractors and we hope that the police can provide them security, but we’d also like to call on the personnel of the towing companies to exercise prudence in the conduct of their duties.

Here’s an email from a reader about a place where a lot of vehicles are illegally parked, but the authorities are turning a blind eye. This is from a reader who calls himself, Concerned Cebuano:

Dear Nimrod. I just passed by Salinas Drive tonight at around 11:00pm and at Waterfront Lahug, Honda area what do I see? Parking amongst the taxicabs was a Toyota Innova Police car with body number 015 with its engine running.

I thought to myself that finally they would start apprehending these taxicab drivers who are patrons of the sidewalk punko-punko that have made one lane as their parking area.

Boy was I wrong. Sitting pretty at the punko-punko was one Police Officer that seemed to be enjoying his hot bowl of soup unmindful that his vehicle is parking in a No Parking zone.

With cops like these who instead of enforcing the law are the ones breaking them, we cannot expect order in our streets anytime soon.

By the way, where are the CITOM towing who seems to be so “hawod” in taking away motorcycles? Pass by this area I mentioned because as early as 6:30 all the way down, cars are parked there and they have become very abusive parking now ALSO at the IT Park side, so both sides of the road you cannot use one lane.

This is a very simple problem to solve, eliminate the punko-punko (Attn: SPEED) vendors and there will be no parking there. Gets mo CITOM? SPEED? CCPO?

There have also been a lot of complaints about vehicles that are illegally parked near corner Jakosalem and R. Landon where there are also police cars seen parking sometimes.

Other areas mentioned by readers are Tojong where there are small eateries catering to jeepney drivers and also the long queue of taxi cabs at Juana Osmeña and Gen. Maxilom Ave. at night.
