Cebu printing firm gets ISO certification
Cebu-based printing firm Basic Graphics Inc. is now a fully ISO-certified printing company.
In a press conference, BGI chief executive officer (CEO) Edmun H. Liu said that with their ISO certification, huge investment in technology and quality service, Cebu could now offer an international standard printing that is at par with well known printing destinations like Singapore and Hong Kong.
Although Liu described Cebu’s printing business as “dispersed” industry, he hopes that with BGI’s lead to provide international standard operation, it will strengthen the printing industry.
Basic Graphics, which entered the printing business 13 years ago, is the first printing firm outside Metro Manila to be accredited with the ISO for print quality (ISO 12647-2).
The company is also the first in the Philippines to offer the Aniva photographic printing technology which replicates photographs, with enhanced depth and tone.
Liu said in the local market alone, there is a huge potential for growth in the printing business, provided that world-class quality of printing will be offered by local players.
BGI started by servicing the printing needs of its sister companies like Matimco, Inc. and Golden ABC, Inc. (maker of Penshoppe).
It has grown three-fold in terms of value and volume of business over the last four years and invested nearly P100 million in the last 13 years, Liu said.
Basic Graphics also now serves luxury resorts and hotels, high-end exporters, tourism-related ventures and multinationals in the Visayas and Mindanao.
With BGI’s effort to invest on international quality, Liu said the company hopes to capture the huge global market for printing as well.
Now that printing quality is at par with the international standard, Liu said local companies will be able to save cost as they don’t have to go abroad (Singapore and Hong Kong) to get their desired printing quality.
With its cheaper printing charges, BGI also hopes to capture printing outsourcing business in the global market. — Ehda M. Dagooc
