Stop the thieves

MOTORIST’S CORNER - Nimrod NL Quiñones -

There has been an alarming increase in the number of cases of thieves breaking the windows of cars particularly in the Carmelite Monastery.

What have the police done about this?

Thieves have become more daring and car owners are becoming helpless. Authorities should not allow such lawlessness to prevail in our city or we lose our claim to being one of the best if not the best in the country.

The police must do something about the thieves now.

We feel very strongly about this having been victimized by thieves several years ago when they broke the driver’s side window of our vehicle while we were playing basketball at the Guadalupe Gym. The place is right beside the barangay hall, which made it quite irritating.

We received a call from a reader, who complained about the licensing center of the Land Transportation Office based in one of the malls.

He said that the company handling the project doesn’t seem to have personnel who know how to treat the customers.

“We were herded out of the place by group of 50 and were ordered to sit down,” he said.

The reader said that the company handling the licensing is Stradcom.

We hope to hear from the people of LTO about this.

This is not the first complaint we received about the licensing center at the mall, which a few years ago offered clients a major relief as licenses can be released in 30 minutes or less.

It is a totally different story now and obviously this is not a sign of progress.

One reader commented that one of the reasons why traffic is often congested at the infamous Eskina Tungkil of Minglanilla town are the big trucks that enter the very narrow road at any time of the day.

“Pirmi gyud na nga matraffic diha kung nay truck mosulod kay maglisod man ug maneuver kay huot man. Daghan kaayong tricycle and ang trucks pod dagko ra kayo,” he told us.

“Maayo tingali nay certain time of the day lang nga I allow and trucks sa lugar. Asa man ta ni i-propose?”

Maybe the town council of Minglanilla can do something about this matter. A truck ban would be one of the ways to ease the problem of traffic congestion.

Of course there must also be traffic aides or policemen that would have to clear the roads of vehicles that are parked on NO PARKING and NO STOPPING areas as well as designate more NO STOPPING zones including the area of Kingswood Village.

Improvement can only happen if people care enough to solve the problem.
