CEBU, Philippines - As the whole country grieves the death of former President Corazon Cojuangco Aquino, Filipinos are also seeing the importance of refreshing their memories of how the first lady president was in the eyes of the many through the books that share her story.

In the three branches of National bookstore in Cebu, increase in sales of Cory Aquino books have been noted by personnel.

Marilou Cabataña, the section in-charge of the biography books for the Fuente Osmeña branch of National Bookstore shared that they have two books of Aquino, one is the “Cory: An Intimate Portrait” by Margie Juico and the other is “In the Name of Democracy and Prayer” written by the former president herself.

The book “Cory: An Intimate Portrait” only has four copies left which is sold at P195 each. Cabataña said that they only ordered 10 copies of the books last March and sold six within this week. This book is a compilation of stories from the close friends of the former president.

“In the Name of Democracy and Prayer” only had four copies left with one copy sold at P280 each and Cabataña said that they expect it to be off the shelves within the week, considering the mounting interest on her books following her death, especially that this particular book contains a compilation of the former president’s speeches.

Meanwhile, Sunshine yellow ribbons also sold like hotcakes as most students and teachers and majority of the public have been buying the ribbons all throughout the week following the announcement of Tita Cory’s death last Saturday.

Adela Fernandez, in-charge of the gift wrapping section said that just the other day, one person bought yellow ribbons worth P5,000 which was said to be for their company’s use. Fernandez also said that they have noted students and teachers buying the ribbon saying they will be needing it during the flag ceremony.

Other branches of National Bookstore also noted of the fast take up of the Cory Aquino books. The branch in Ayala shared that they have already ordered new set of books for the “Cory: An Intimate Portrait” and only have a limited number of the other book. The SM branch also reported that their copies of the books are already sold out.
