One Cebu Business Summit goes environmental

CEBU, Philippines - The One Cebu Business Summit, which will be one of the highlights of this year’s Mandaue Business Month, will focus discussions towards environmental issues.      

The Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) sees the importance of tackling environmental concerns as the month-long celebration.

During the final briefing yesterday for the MBM, MCCI President Eric Ng Mendoza said that they are not only thinking of making profits or giving their attention on their respective businesses, but also prioritizes issues concerning the community as well.

He said that environmental issues are also their concern and during the One Cebu Business Summit on August 10, which will be held at the Cebu International Convention Center, this matter will be one of the three main topics that they will be focusing on.

Mendoza shared that they will be having three topics, the global economic outlook, the corporate growth strategies, and the green growth.

He explained that “Green Growth” would match their economic goals with environmental concerns like on the different industries’ waste management programs.

The One Cebu business summit will be attended by participants including top business executives, which organizers target to reach 300, with keynote speakers that are respected in their own fields of endeavor.

Finance Secretary Margarito Teves is expected to give his keynote speech prior to the discussions on other topics like the global economic outlook, which is to discuss on the perspective of the country of the economic situation.

The corporate growth strategies discussion will be coming from businessmen who have excelled in the industry despite starting small or those that started in other sectors before making it big in their respective businesses.

MBM will kick off on August 3 with an opening salvo dubbed as “Cebu is ONE @ 440”, which will feature a concert of Visayan music and a fashion show at the Ayala Terraces.

The One Cebu Exhibit will be on August 7-16 at the CICC organized by MCCI and the Cebu provincial government, which will showcase various Cebuano goods and services.

Other activities include the business idol for different participating schools on August 10 at the CICC, a job fair on August 14 at the Mandaue Sports Complex with different manufacturing companies in Mandaue and Cebu as participants and the “Asenso Negosyo” at the Parkmall on August 14-15 where livelihood programs and actual demos will take place and a vanue for sharing of ideas on how to promote livelihood.

An organic market will also be opened at the CICC on August 21 with a forum on organic farming that will be given by resource speakers on health and wellness using organic products while the Inter-Car Club meet will also be held on August 22-23 on CICC grounds.— AJ de la Torre
