Mandaue traffic

A reader called us up to air his disappointment at the failure of authorities to look into the traffic situation in Basak, Mandaue City all the way to the area near that intersection going to the Marcelo Fernan Bridge.

The reader, who asked that he remain anonymous, said that it is such a hassle for people like him who pass the place almost every day as even when there were no classes yet, traffic was bad.

“Dugay na kaayo ning problema diri wala gyud malihok,” he said over the phone.

“Naa lagi mga traffic enforcer, but dili madala ang volume sa traffic sa city-bound lane.”

We have no idea what are the plans of the local government, but one solution to this problem would be the North Coastal Road, which is now under construction.

Many people from the north are now looking forward to the completion of this project.

One reader said that this would surely help since he would not anymore have to pass by Consolacion, which he considers as a place “with the poorest traffic management.”

We know that the town officials are working hard, but then many still don’t like the way they put up the billboard washing their hands about the problem.

The complaints against the towing companies in Cebu City continue to mount and we hope that the recent move of the Cebu City Council not to allow towing when the driver is around would help ease the tension.

We have personally witnessed how some people seem to really hate seeing the tow trucks, but we must also remember that the city needs to make sure there is order on our streets.

As we’ve said before, we support the enforcement of traffic laws, but then the towing companies must know how to impose them properly.

There is also a need to work harder during the waking hours as more traffic violations are committed during this time and not when everyone is sleeping and have parked their vehicles in some remote road.

The bigger issue is the selective enforcement of traffic laws as you don’t see these two trucks in areas like Lorega San Miguel pulling out all the illegally parked vehicles in the area.

We look forward to the day when the CITOM would implement traffic laws in such places and when that happens, our aim to have a better city will surely happen.
