Prices of basic goods in Cebu remain stable

CEBU, Philippines – Farm gate and retail market prices of crops, cereals, and fertilizers in Cebu remain stable in the past few weeks, this according to the latest price monitoring report on basic commodities conducted by the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Statistics.

The BAS report stated that for the period within June 3 to June 9, farm gate price of white corn grain was pegged at P18.46 to as high as P19.23 with a prevailing price of P18.46 per kilogram. There was no trading in the farm gate level for fancy, fresh and dry palay as well as yellow corngrain.

In the wholesale level, there was no trading for fancy rice but premium rice was traded at P33.20 per kilo to as high as P37 with a prevailing price of P35. 80 per kilo, which remained steady over the previous week.

Well-milled rice (WMR) was traded at P30.40 to as high as P33 per kilo with a prevailing price of P31.60 that decreased form the previous week’s P32 per kilo.

Regular-milled rice (RMR) was traded at P26.40 to as high as P30 per kilo with a prevailing price of P29 which remained steady from the previous week.

There was no trading for yellow and white corngrain that week but yellow corngrits was priced at P18.20 per kilo while white corngrits was at P23.85 to as high as P30 per kilo with a prevailing price of P27.50.

According to the BAS report, the prices for corngrits decreased due to the decrease of the buying prices from Mindanao producers.

In the retail level, premium rice was at P37. 50 to as high as P40 per kilo which remained steady form last week while well-milled rice was priced at P33 to P37 per kilo and regular milled rice was at P27 to P32.50.

There were price decreases in the dealer prices for fertilizers because urea was traded at P920 this week from last week’s P945 per 50 kilograms while complete fertilizer was steady at P1, 120 per 50 kilograms, Ammophos decreased from P1,100 last week to P1, 077 this week and Ammosul was at P507.

As for vegetables, as of June 15, eggplant was priced at P12 to P15 in wholesale in Carbon market while for retail; this was priced at P15 to P18 in Tabunok and P25 to P30 in Mandaue.

Cabbage was traded at P25 to P28 for wholesale in Carbon while it is sold at P28 to P32 in retain in Tabunok and P38 to P40 in Mandaue.

Mangoes is prices at P40 in wholesale while in retail it is priced at P54 to P50 in both Tabunok and Mandaue markets.

Bangus is priced at P110 per kilo in Carbon for wholesale while it is priced at P80 to P120 in retail at Tabunok and Mandaue.

Galunggong is priced at P55 to P60 in wholesale while it is priced at P60 to P100 in Tabunok and Mandaue.

Lean pork is at P170 in retail while lean beef is at P180 to P200 and chicken broiler is at P120 in both Mandaue and Tabunok wet markets. — Rhia de Pablo
