Paugat drivers, speed limiter, law enforcement

MOTORIST’S CORNER - Nimrod NL Quiones -

It’s the time for those long drives again and we wish all our readers a safe trip as you head to your hometowns or to other places where you are spending the Holy Week.

Don’t forget that safety means not only making sure your homes are secure while you’re away, but also that your vehicles and those operating it would be in good shape for the job.

One more very important thing is never forget to pray before you hit the road. It works so much better than whatever safety feature your car has.

We received several email about the tragedy in Naga that resulted to the loss of 14 lives.  Three of the letters stand out.

One reader, a certain Randy Jugado, was first to send me mail and he has issued a warning to the ‘paugat’ drivers that he would not hesitate to go after them if ever it would cause an accident that would involve him.

The guy said he has a new SUV and would not want these people, who drive like maniacs dent his vehicle, which he is sure they would not be able to afford to have it repaired.

We do know many people who feel the same Randy.

Another reader, Shel Shannon sent us a copy of a letter he sent to authorities about a product that would be very helpful in limiting the speeds of vehicles.

Here is part of his letter:

Our company has a product, the V-Count II EL that enables the user to Set, Monitor and Enforce the maximum vehicle speed allowed. The product is Tamper Proof and Pass Code protected. There are several countries in the region, Brunei and Singapore for example that require large vehicles to have roof top lights that indicate over speeding incidents.

The government of Brunei has expressed interest in our product. Our partners there are in the process of introducing the V-Count II EL to the department of transportation.

Our product is manufactured in Cebu and is inexpensive (less than P5,000) it carries an extended warranty of 2 years. We have been in the business of supplying motor vehicle safety, monitoring and management products from Cebu for 15 years locally and internationally. Our customers are well known multi-national and local companies.

We offer to install, FREE of cost or obligation in any bus or truck a V-Count II EL for up to 30 days of demonstration and evaluation.

The third email is something a bit more personal as it came from somebody who knew the wife of one of the victims.

Mr. APR Bruton is calling on the authorities to prosecute the management of the bus company for the accident.

He is also calling on the police to strictly implement the laws and have a 24/7 presence on the roads to help deter accidents.

We really have so much to do sir and we hope that more motorists would really cooperate when they are on the road.

Everybody must remember that speed kills.
