Commodity prices post slight increase

Due to the increase of fertilizer prices and lesser supply from the farm gate level, prices this week of cereals slightly increased as well as other commodities such as vegetables, fruits, meat and fish.

In a weekly cereals and fertilizer and commodity price monitoring report for Cebu furnished to The Freeman by the Department of Agriculture Bureau of Statistics (BAS) which covered reference period of January 28 to February 4, 2009, it showed a slight increase of fertilizer, cereal and commodity prices.

In the farm level, there was no trading in the fancy and dry palay as well as in the yellow corn grain but white corn grain was traded at P17. 38 to as high as P18. 31 per kilo with a prevailing price of P17. 54 per kilo.

For wholesale, there was no trading in fancy rice while premium rice was started at P33 to as high as P39 per kilo with a prevailing price of P33. 40, a slight increase over last week’s P33 per kilo.

Wholesale well-milled rice (WMR) was traded at P29.40 to as high as P32. 80 with a prevailing price of P32.40, an increase over last week’s P32 per kilo.

Regular milled rice (RMR) was traded at P26 to as high as P29.20 a kilo with a prevailing price of P28. 60 per kilo.

Meanwhile for retail, there was no trading for fancy rice but premium rice was traded at P37 to a high as P42 per kilo and WMR was traded at P32 to as high as P36. 50 per kilo with a prevailing price of P35 per kilo whereas RMR was traded at P27 to as high as P31. 50 per kilo.

There was no trading for the wholesale and retail of yellow and white corn grain as well as yellow corn grits but white corngrits was traded at P28. 75 to as P30 in wholesale and P29 to P31 a kilo in the retail level.

There were also slight increases for fertilizers prices as urea (45-0-0) was traded at P995 to P1, 100 per 50 kilograms, Ammosul (21-0-0) was at P500 to P600, Ammophos (10-20-0) was at P1, 200 to P1, 280 while complete (14-14-14) fertilizer was at P1, 200 to P1, 300 per 50 kilograms.

In the vegetable commodities, tomatoes were traded at P20 to 21. 20 per kilo wholesale at the Carbon market while it was traded at P28 to P38 per kilo in retail at the Tabunok and Mandaue public markets.

Eggplants were traded at P30 to P35 per kilo in retail while it was traded at PP40 to P48 per kilo in wholesale while carrots were priced at P60 to P65 per kilo in Carbon while it was priced at PP75 to P80 a kilo in retail at Mandaue and Tabunok.

Fruits like mangoes were priced at P48 to P50 per kilo in Carbon while it was traded at PP60 to P65 per kilo for retail in Mandaue and Tabunok markets.

Galunggong on the other hand remained steady with prices at P70 per kilo in wholesale at Carbon and PP60 to P80 per kilo in wholesale at Tabunok and Mandaue public markets.

Bangus was traded at P110 in retail at carbon while it is priced at P120 to P130 per kilo for wholesale Tabunok and Mandaue while talakitok was priced at P150 to P160 per kilo in wholesale while it was priced at P180 to P220 per kilo in retail.

Lean beef was priced at P180 to P200 in wholesale at Tabunok and Mandaue while lean pork was at P160 to P170 and chicken broiler was at P120 in both Mandaue and Tabunok public markets. — Rhia de Pablo
