Intel and HP intensify "Greenergy" campaign
PANGLAO, BOHOL – Two of the world’s information technology leaders committed to intensify its green efforts campaign in their respective operations to help curb the dangerous effect of climate change, without sacrificing efficiency, and affordability of their products.
Intel Technology Philippines and Hewlett Packard (HP) Philippines Corporation jointly announced its strong commitment to share its Green IT platform in the Philippines, through partnering with organizations and government agencies, to employ effective environment-friendly operation, from energy efficient operations, water conservation campaigns, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and material recycling.
Also, both companies made assurances to provide energy-efficient but high efficient products that will be made more affordable to the Filipino consumers.
Because of the huge savings reaped by these companies in employing Green IT initiatives in the last few years, Intel Philippines country manager Ricky Bana-ag said prices of technology products, especially Personal Computers (PCs) will continue to dive making technology available to majority of the Filipinos.
HP Philippines technology solutions group managing director and general manager David Tan said that the company is on track of its goal to reduce their energy consumption by 16 percent by 2010.
Also, the company has been introducing cost-effective energy efficient products, reducing the climate impact of HP products and services.
New HP notebooks, printers and servers are now designed to increase energy efficiency by 25 percent to 50 percent, also reducing energy required to cool data centers by 25 percent to 40 percent.
According to Bana-ag although IT industry players are spending multi-million dollars to implement a total Green Operation platform, efficiency of products and affordability of products are not being sacrificed, it is however enhanced.
Intel has identified three areas of focus for its environmental initiatives these are the responsible product design, sustainable operations and global citizenship.
Bana-ag even advised companies to use full LCD screens for their computers, or mobile PCs/laptops to further save energy consumption in the workplace.
HP on the other hand, announced the expansion of the HP Planet partners print cartridge return and recycling program, along with steps to reduce shipping materials and increase transportation efficiency.
HP Planet Partners, part of the HP Eco Solutions program, is designed to offer customers free and convenient print cartridge return options, and now includes HP authorized retail recycling locations for HP ink cartridge and Laser Jet toner cartridge collection, in addition to other recycling options.
Both HP and Intel are two of the world’s big IT companies that emphasized its commitment to "Greenergy" program, which has now become a primary Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs among multinational companies across the globe.
