Honing human resources vital in coping with crisis

-

With today’s global economic meltdown, the Philippine Quality and Productivity Movement- Visayas (PQPM) stresses the importance of harnessing the country’s human resources to cope with market demands and changing times.

PQPM recently held its 11th Quality and Productivity Congress with the theme: “Practical Innovations: Turning Challenges to Opportunities,” a two day seminar that is aimed at helping the private sector address the impacts of the current economic crisis.

Philippine Quality and Productivity Movement (PQPM) was organized to serve as an advocate of quality and productivity improvement by providing a venue for networking among total quality movement practitioners.

The movement also offers consultancy services to its members composed of small and medium scaled entrepreneurs, local government units, private organizations and non-government organizations and even to non-members.

This multi-sectoral organization was formed last 1987 and was created to foster and promote productivity improvement in the country.

“We hope to attain greater efficiency and effectiveness in using resources through a concerted and sustained national productivity program through core groups drawn from major sectors of the economy,” said Philip Tan, PQPM-Visayas president in an interview.

Tan said that yearly, their chapter holds a congress and this year they saw the need to help stakeholders carry the impacts of the crises.

He stressed that the crises provides all the more reason for stakeholders to maintain or if not improve their level of quality and competitiveness.

He said that their chapter is currently composed of close to 100 members coming from the academe, private sector and even government sector representatives.

He stressed that their movement aims to help each other sustain or develop their industries and they also want to achieve a symbiotic relationship within the public sector and the public sector.

“With our consolidated efforts, we hope to have a common vision and work together for a common good. The government cannot do everything so the private sector needs to work closely with them,” said Tan. — Rhia de Pablo
