New commercial center eyes growth in Mactan

Noting the lack of specialty center and entertainment venue in Mactan, a new developer has opened Shangs Mactan Town Center (MTC), a mixed-use commercial establishment that aims to tap into both foreign and local patrons based in the area.

Shangs MTC is composed of a three level building with a 2, 000 square meters floor area and 900 square meters of leasable space located at the ML Quezon Avenue in Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City.

According to Mary May Tan, marketing director of Shang Development Corp., their family decided to put up Shangs MTC because they have noticed that most commercial establishments in the area close up early in the night giving no choice to both local and foreign patrons based or staying in Mactan to travel far to Cebu City.

She said that aside from the workers in the export processing zones in Mactan, there are also quite a number of foreign and domestic tourists who are staying in hotels around Mactan who they consider their target markets.

After opening last August, Shangs MTC is currently 80 percent occupied and it has varied tenants composed of ALA Boxing and Fitness Gym, Hott Hedz Salon, MCAA Skin Enhancement Center, Poseidon Entertainment Bar, a travel agency, a cell phone shop and the company owned Dulcinea Hotel and Suites.

Right now, the developers are still undergoing construction of the shopping gallery on its ground floor where bazaar stalls will be located and it will be composed of around 50 tenants.

The third floor will be occupied by their company-owned Dulcinea Hotel and Suites that will be opened this December.

It has 15 rooms and two suites, catering mostly to business people and foreign and domestic tourists visiting the island of Mactan.

Aside from the main building, Shangs MTC also has a separate two-level food court on the other side which will house food stalls for dining and half of the space will be rented out to a restaurant chain based in Cebu.

Tan said that Shangs MTC is providing MEPZ workers, expatriates and Korean and Japanese tourists a new hang out place where they can enjoy Lapu-Lapu City and also get access all the things they need such as shopping and entertainment.
