Microtel's largest hotel opens in Punta Engaño

Enrison Land Inc. (ELI) and Microtel Inns & Suites (Pilipinas), Inc., have officially opened its largest Microtel Hotel in the country.

At its commercial opening early this month, the P300 million 161-room Microtel resort in Mactan already registered good booking performance, reaching an average occupancy rate of 75 percent, said Microtel Inns & Suites (Pilipinas), Inc. vice president for marketing Teddy Lim.

For the last 15 days, Lim said while some rooms are not yet ready for occupancy, the hotel is already running at a 100 % occupancy rate. This is expected to improve specifically after the official and grand opening of the hotel, which was held September 22.

Last Monday, Microtel Mactan officially opened its doors to both local and international clients, providing additional convention, and leisure facilities in Mactan Island.

According to Lim, the resort is getting a good number of convention clients, not only from the Philippines, but also from other countries.

In an interview recently, ELI president Grand Benedicto said the company has spent over a million pesos for each room to provide a unique ambiance and leisurely environment.

Although, not officially positioned as a five-star resort, Benedicto said the company is making sure that its services and facilities will be at par with triple-A accommodation resorts.

Lim said as early as now, Microtel Mactan is gaining popularity among the leisure-business-conference markets, with function room facility that could accommodate a total of 200 people.

The Microtel Resort in Punta Engaño, Mactan is situated in a 5,000 square-meter property, developed by ELI, a company owned by the Benedicto family of Cebu. This is the 8th hotel facility opened by Microtel Inns & Suites. The company is expecting to open two more Microtel hotels this year in Palawan and in Metro Manila.

ELI has inked deal with the Microtel Inns & Suites [Pilipinas] Inc., for a 100 percent franchise package, which means to invest in the resort facility, tapping the management expertise of the Microtel group.

The Microtel chain has hotel facilities in other parts of country, such as Baguio, Boracay, Tarlac, Davao, Cavite, Batangas, and Cabanatuan.

Microtel is the hospitality arm of the Phinma Group. It was established in 1997, incorporated in the state of New York, USA as private company.

The Microtel Resort in Mactan is the first entry of the Benedicto Group to the booming tourism industry. The company is planning to capitalize on this sector, utilizing its huge land bank in Cebu.
