IT groups pledge support for Open Source Summit

-

A handful of the country’s huge Information Technology (IT) organizations have officially stamped their commitment to support the first Open Source Summit in Cebu, as it is expected to provide extensive and strategic discussions on how to advance the Open Source movement in the Philippines.

Six big IT groups have signed their commitment to support the upcoming Open Source Summit in Cebu this coming June 23 to 24, including the Commission on Information & Communication Technology (CICT), the Philippine Software Industry Association (PSIA), the Business Process Association of the Philippines (BPAP), the Philippine Society of IT Educators (PSITE), and other six IT groups based in Metro Manila.

Cebu Educational Development for Information Technology (Cedfit) managing director Bonifacio Belen announced that these groups have committed to be the Local Implementing Partners of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s forthcoming First Cebu Open Source Summit.

Other associations that have pledged to support the gathering through its network of IT stakeholders are the Philippine Internet Commerce Society (PCS), the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ASSPI), the Japan External Trade Organization (Jetro), Philippine Computer Society (PCS), IT Association of the Philippines (ITAP), and the Medical Transcription Industry Association of the Philippines (MTTAP).

The Local Implementing Partner’s principal role is to promote and encourage participation among its membership, collaborators and affiliates—as conference delegate of sponsor/exhibitor, Belen said. —Ehda M. Dagooc
