Fil-Aussie couple invests in one-stop beauty shop

In its bid to provide the Cebuano market with what they need and not of what they perceive as needed, a couple from Australia invested on a salon, parlor and spa business at Talamban’s newest commercial complex.

With a business concept that evolved from the need to provide an A class and high quality spa and beauty salon that is all in one convenient location for the beauty-conscious women of today, Australian national Terry and his Filipina wife Gigi Connelly decided to put up Hollywood Nails Beauty Salon and Spa (HNBSS) which recently had its grand opening at the newest Piazza Elesia Center in Talamban.

Hollywood Nails and Beauty Salon and Spa aims to be the finest, first and only ‘one stop beauty shop’ in town as it introduces a full service beauty salon and spa offering the latest European and US trends in beauty and spa treatments which mostly are not yet offered in the country.

HNBSS offers the new nail artistry and manicure service that is unlike any other plus new US and European pedicure treatments and foot spa treatments. They also offer world-class hair styling services including hair treatments, coloring and extensions.

They also do therapeutic body and foot massage, body and foot scrubs, full range waxing treatments, body treatments, spa, steam and dry sauna and also offer professional make-up for special occasions such as eyelash and eyebrow tinting.

But not only do they have services catered for today’s modern women but also for men as they cater professional male barber shop and grooming services as well.

“In Australia, there is a huge difference in the lifestyle compared to the Philippines; Australians live to work but Filipinos work to live and they enjoy life and likes to be pampered,” said Terry, who also operates other businesses in Australia such as a financial service firm and an import-export commercial packing business under his family-owned Winston Distribution and Services Corporation.

Terry further added that, “so we thought: why not provide world-class services in terms of spa and salon giving Filipinos what they really want instead of what we think they want at an affordable rate? So that triggered the business aside from fulfilling my wife’s dream to operate this type of enterprise.”

Composed of about 37 personnel assigned to four different sections: nails (manicure and pedicure), hair dressing, barber, and spa, Terry believes that “being in a service industry, we are as good as having people who can deliver and we believe to have the best team and staff.”

As early as today, HNBSS’ client-base is already building up and the business is slowly gaining attention from interested parties such as mall operators because of its breakthrough in its operations as customers have kept coming back after they soft opened last August.

Also, with their location having been situated near big villages and universities in town which comprises the big chunk of the A and B market segment that HNBSS is pitching, Terry is very optimistic that in just a span of about two or a year and six months of operation they could already be able to earn a return of their investment.

And in a matter of six months or two years, Terry is planning on venturing into franchising as they decided to retire in the county and buy more properties.

“The response for the business has been really amazing and we have proven that if you give Filipinos what they want, they will surely come and spend their money,” stressed Terry. – Rhia de Pablo
