Mom & daughter tandem thrives in jewelry venture

Filipino entrepreneurs are known world-class for their creativity and unique design ideas and this has been proven by a mother and daughter tandem from Banilad who has been making waves in the customized jewelry business.

Of what has been started as just a mere hobby done in their past time, mother Lorna Lago and her daughter Cherie Mae Lago has since designed and handcrafted jewelry as a business venture for a more than a year now and called their business as L’ Cherie Fashion.

Because of their hard work and unique designs, L’ Cherie products are now being supplied in different countries by their walk-in buyers who have been amazed at how they managed to skillfully make their one-of-each kind products.

According to Cherie Mae Lago, she and her mother are the only ones who made and designed the jewelries.

“Even from the start, it was really our hobby already and we are just happy that through our creativity, we have came up with unique designs that we are able to share with other people specially those who are very fond of jewelry,” said Lago.

Their products ranged from P150 up to P2, 000 depending upon the designs and the materials. According to her, they have both locally sourced and imported materials. They use semi-precious stones and murano glass in their products that ranges from necklaces, charm bracelets and cuff links, rings, and anklets.

“Imported materials appeal more to our domestic market while the products made from locally sourced raw materials are very much in demand for our customers abroad,” she added.

The products are already being supplied in Australia, New Castle, and the United States. But even if their products have already been able to reach the international market, Lago still admits that they are still unable to meet the growing demand. —Rhia de Pablo

But Lago is very optimistic that by joining more exhibits such as the ones in SM’s “Negososyo 2007,” they will soon be able to hit the right market and get as much popularity as possible.

“There are seasons that our revenue is at its peak but there also are times when we gain less but our retail and wholesale is even. If we are not very good in the retail aspect, we make it up in our wholesale which are being brought abroad,” Lago shared about their sales.

Lago also pointed out that one factor that lead to the growth of their business is through using the internet. And so she suggested that entrepreneurs who strive to make it big in their business ventures should also go on-line to market their products, do transactions and find international buyers who will be able to supply their products in different places abroad.

“The internet is our efficient and practical means of communication. It makes transactions with our clients abroad a lot easier and more profitable for the business,” Lago noted.
