Argao gets facelift to attract investors
In his first term of office, Mayor Edsel Galeos of the
“By starting with the basics, it will give my constituents strong message of what my administration is. Also after these primary matters are settled, it will be the time to talk to businessmen and invite them to invest in our area. We cannot attract investors unless we fix things first,” said Galeos in an exclusive interview.
Optimistic that the town has lots of potential to achieve economic development, Galeos added that attracting investors will be easier if Argao accomplishes the basic requirements first like infrastructure.
Galeos showed The Freeman the blueprint for his proposed construction plan of a 2-storey Argao sports and cultural center which will be funded by the national government. He said that the structure is essential for the town as it will become a venue where his constituents especially the youth sector could engage in productive sports and cultural activities. The Mayor hopes that the construction will be started by next year as a team of engineers from his construction firm is helping him visualize this goal.
The Mayor also discussed his future plans to reclaim about two to three hectares of land in the area of Brgy. Tulic where a baywalk similar to the family park in Dumaguete City will be built. He said that these kinds of developments are the basic things that he will be working on to set people’s attitude to work.
Galeos stressed that, “face lifting of the whole area of Argao is necessary for attracting investors. How could we invite investors if our place is not yet conducive for development?”
He said that improving their public market, drainage system, and public roads and giving his constituents basic needs like a plaza are necessary steps towards achieving his administration’s goal which is to develop Argao into a first-class municipality.
With their recently built 300 meters RORO terminal, Galeos expressed confidence that Argao will welcome trading from other parts of the region making way for the development of the town in terms of business and trade. He said that the port already has a fast craft that travels from Argao to Loon, Bohol. Galeos said that they are negotiating that a fast craft with route from Cebu City be positioned in the port for better access.
The RORO terminal’s inauguration is scheduled this October. Galeos said that the project was worth P30 million, P6M of which was used for concreting, P12 M for the RORO ramp, while P10 M went for the construction of the terminal. To make the local government of Argao benefit from this recent development, Galeos said that a terminal fee will be issued.
With their town fiesta approaching this Thursday, Mayor Galeos busies himself in administering important town activities such as their second Pitlagong Festival that will highlight the rich cultural heritage of the municipality and its dynamic people.
